Acupressure is a major branch of TCM or traditional Chinese medicine that has been used continuously for at least 2,000 years. It’s a version of acupuncture but without the use of needles. Acupressure practitioners focus on selected acupressure points on the body to promote healing and release stagnant energy. In the treatment of ED or erectile dysfunction, researchers have found this type of self-massage beneficial for a person’s sexual health.

How Does Acupressure Work?

Acupressure clears energy blockages in the body along energy channels called “meridians.” Blockages in the meridians are the cause of illness and pain in the body. To clear these blockages, restore wellness and rectify imbalances, TCM practitioners will use either acupuncture or acupressure.

According to Tampa Center for Acupuncture Oriental Medicine doctor, Joshua Hanson, “Acupressure and Acupuncture are designed to stimulate both the vascular system and nervous system.” Hanson added that, these modalities can cause the dilation of blood vessels permitting an erection to occurmuch like pharmacological drugs do.

Perhaps, the greatest advantage in using acupressure is that it can be administered by yourself in the comfort of your own home.

How do you use Acupressure at Home?

Acupressure works by administering firm pressure to strategic acupressure points on your body.

Start by taking several deep breaths and relaxing.

Locate the acupoint and for thirty seconds to a minute, apply strong pressure before moving on to the next.

Massage each acupoint with small circular motions. Apply relatively strong pressure on the points, but be sure it’s not too strong that it produces pain.

Acupressure Treatment for ED

The acupointscommonly used for ED include:

1. Stomach 36 (St36) Acupoint – This acupoint is located on your lower leg’s front on the outside of your shinboneabout one hand-width below your knee. This is a Shin Acupressure Point

2. Spleen 6 (Sp6) Acupoint – Located four fingers’ width on top of your ankle boneon the inner side of your lower leg. This is an Ankle Acupressure Point.

3. Kidney 3 (Kd3) Acupoint – Located near the Achilles tendonon the inside of your lower leg over the heel. This is a Foot Acupressure Point.

4. Liver 3 (Lv3) Acupoint – Located about a couple inches down between your second and big toes on the top of your foot. This is also a Foot Acupressure Point.

5. Heart 7 (Ht7) Acupoint–Located a finger’s width near the edgeof the wrist’s crease and is aligned with your pinkie. This is a Wrist Acupressure Point

According to Dylan Stein, licensed acupuncturist in ,self-massage can provide benefits to other areas of the body.“One very good treatment for ED is to massage your sacrum and lower back.” “Massaging the same region on the front, from your navel to your pubic bone is also highly recommended in addressing ED.”

Other ED Therapies That Can Be Performed at Home

For Stein, acupuncture and acupressure are just simply a couple solutions to many. For ED sufferers, he usually suggests therapies such as mindfulness meditation combined with lifestyle and diet changes.

What are the Benefits of Mindfulness Exercises?

Hanson recommends that ED sufferers perform regular exercises, consume high quality health foods and refrain from eating highly processed foods.

Stein believes that an acupuncturist in King of Prussia can maximize the effects of domestic self-acupressure. He also believes that acupuncture is way more potent than self-massage procedures.

The common causes of pain are back strain and muscle tension. Broken down cartilage and worn joints can also be a factor. Although neck pain can be dispersed, it usually centers on one area in your neck. This type of pain can manifest in the form of spasms or stiffness. To relieve neck pain, nowadays, people have been turning to natural healing techniques such as acupressure in Cleveland and reflexology. Acupressure helps identify the pressure points in your body that can be stimulated and massaged to alleviate health problems.

Despite the fact that anecdotal evidences abound showing it to be effective in treating neck pain, the practice of reflexology is still being evaluated for its clinical effectiveness. To find out more about the pressure points that can help alleviate your neck pain, continue reading.

The science behind neck pain and pressure points!

As a treatment for neck pain, acupuncture has been studied for many decades now. Acupuncture is not universally accepted as a treatment for neck pain treatment despite the fact is evidence that it works for try this condition. With regards to acupressure, there is very little scientific study to prove that it works. Some researchers wonder if the acupuncture needles help activate chemicals in your body bring about the relief of pain. Then,if that is the case, activating pressure points through massage rather than needles would not generate the same relief from pain.

With this in mind, it is not really a good idea to rule out the benefits of acupressure as a holistic way to treat neck pain. Activating pressure points may soothe aching muscles and alleviate neck pain. Based on a number of medical and scientific reviews, the answer is that we just don’t know.

If you’re interested in relieving neck pain using acupressure therapy, these are the steps you need to follow:

Breathein deeply and relax – to administer acupressure therapy, be mindful to select a quiet and comfortable setting.

After identifying the pressure points to take your neck pain, use a deep and firm pressure to massage the affected pressure points. On each point, you need to rotate your fingers in an up-and-down or circular motion for three to five minutes, focusing on one at a time. Stop right away if during the treatment, you feel a sharp rise in pain anywhere on your body.

if you feel the massage is effective, repeat the treatment throughout the day. There’s no limit to how many times per day you can practice acupressure.

Keep in mind that in reflexology, the entire body is interconnected. This means that it’s typical to activate one part of your body to align or stimulate another body part.

The Jian Jing acupuncture point is located in the muscles of your shoulder, approximately halfway between your arms begin and neck. This acupoint has been successfully utilized in acupuncture studies of muscle tension and headache. The Jian Jing point may successfully also relieve the pain of a stiff or sore neck.

21. February 2019 · Comments Off on The Five Shen Of TCM · Categories: Acupuncture · Tags:

The 5 Shen are the spirits related to each of the five yin organ systems of the body (Lungs, Liver, Spleen, Kidney, and Heart). The 5 Shen system originated from what is found within the Taoist practice of the Shangqing bloodline. Every one of these spirits has an association not only with a yin organ and its related element, but also with a direction and the energy of a planet. “Waking up” the Shen of the organs is the same as “beckoning the spirits” for a shamanic ritual.

When in balance, the 5 Shen, vibrate with a resounding harmony similar to the “Harmony of the Spheres” of the planets. With the framework of our Inner Alchemy (neidan) practice, the 5 Shen are ultimately, returned to the integrated Mind of Tao.

Emperor of the Heart Shen

We find something like a spiritual hierarchy within the system of the 5 Shen: Shen – the Empero is the spirit of the Heart, with facets of its power – like ministers – dwelling as the other organs’ spirits. Communication between the organs is harmonious and balanced when these secondary spirits fulfill their role as loyal heralds of the Shen of the Heart leading to a well-functioning and happy “Body Politic.”

Fire is the element related to the Heart Shen. South is its direction, and Mars is the planetary energy that it represents. Being the emperor of the 5 Shen, it is connected with the general quality of our consciousness that can be sensed in the energy moving through our eyes.

Eyes that are responsive, sparkling, and clear are signs of a healthy Shen – of consciousness that is intelligent, fluid, and vibrant.

The Will to Act of the Kidneys – Zhi

The kidney system’s Shen is will or Zhi. The water element is associated with Zhi which represents the planet Mercury and bears the energy of the north direction.

The minister responsible for the intention and work needed to achieve things is Zhi. This includes the perseverance and effort required to succeed in our spiritual practice. In Taoism, to align ourselves with the Tao or the “will of Heaven,” is the greatest use of our personal will. The spirit-filled effort springing from such a choice has the characteristic of wuwei: “right” action or spontaneously skillful and non-volitional.

The Spleen’s Intellect – Yi

The Spleen System’s spirit is intellect or Yi. The element of earth is associated with Yi: Saturn is its planetary energy and center is its direction. Yi includes our ability to form intentions and the capacity to utilize our conceptual mind to exercise discernment. A Yi that is out of balance can manifest as unconscious internal chatter or discursiveness: a sort of “pensiveness” or over-thinking that injures the Spleen. A Yi that is healthy can manifest as spirit-filled understanding and intelligence.

The Lungs’ Bodily Soul – Po

The bodily soul or Po is the part of consciousness that, at the time of death, dissipates with the body’s elements. It is also related with the lung organ system. The metal element belongs to Po, as is Venus, the planet, and the west direction.

As opposed to the Hun, Po is associated with our denser or immediate desires since it only exists within the context of a single lifetime.

The Liver’s Ethereal Soul – Hun

The ethereal soul or Hun is affiliated with the liver system and is the part of consciousness that, in more subtle realms, continues to exist – – even after the body has died. The wood element and Hun are related to each other as with the planetary energy of Jupiter and the east direction. As our spiritual practice deepens, more and more of the physical aspects of consciousness, or Po is used or transmuted as support for the Hun. We are manifesting “Heaven on Earth” within our very bodies, as this process unfolds.

Couples who have been together for a certain period of time may decide one day to raise a family of their own. For many of them however, the dream of having a child of their own may be just that, a dream. A partner or both may have a problem conceiving a child. For some, it is their age that may be hindering their ability to conceive.

A couple I know, in their 40s, have decided one day to have a child. They kept trying for over a year and then decided to undergo tests to make sure they had no medical problems. By now, the woman 42 and her clock seemed to be ticking less. The tests confirmed something she had been aware of; that her periods have been gradually diminishing. She thought she was going to early menopause but her doctors found out her problem was Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS, a condition where there are a cyst or cysts on a woman’s ovaries. To treat the cysts, her doctors recommended birth control pills. However, if the cysts are large enough, surgery is usually recommended. On top of her problem, due to her age, the doctors told that her production of eggs had slowed down. She went home dejected and crestfallen angry at herself why she did not get pregnant much earlier and wondered if she would ever get pregnant.

Even though she worked hard all her life, the thought of never ending invasive and costly treatments did not appeal. She was told she may experience some nasty side effects as well. So, she started reading books and began researching the Net for other options. What she discovered was truly amazing and felt like she uncovered a treasure trove of natural healing solutions. This is when she realized that there is an entire universe of holistic healing techniques at her disposal.

My patient realized that for millennia, the Chinese had been using acupressure and acupuncture to help infertile women get pregnant. One day, she walked into my office and told me all her problems as well as her medical history. I performed some tests specific to Chinese medicine diagnosis. I prescribed several herbal remedies and administered more acupressure treatments than acupuncture treatments on her. I recommended a low GI-diet made up of morsels such as yogurt, lentils, whole milk, fish and whole-grain bread and fruits such as prunes and peaches that can help lower insulin levels in the blood stream, a significant cause of PCOS in women. During sessions, besides acupuncture and acupuncture, I also administered Tuina Massage on her body to boost her immune system and help lower her stress levels. I advised her as well to perform light exercises every day at home.

My patient and her husband were very cooperative and, sure enough, she got pregnant not long before. She could not believe it. She and her husband were happier and healthier than they have ever been in their lives and with the added gift of having a baby very soon. All these techniques have been around for thousands of years but somehow they have been overshadowed by quick fixes courtesy of Western medicine. We are now hearing more news of couples turning away from standard infertility treatments and have found the same success.

If you suffer from infertility but nonetheless, want to get pregnant, before deciding to go through painful procedures or take drugs, keep in mind that holistic remedies are available that will work on your body as a whole to help you overcome your problem.

14. February 2019 · Comments Off on Auricular Acupuncture For The Relief Of Pain · Categories: Acupuncture · Tags: ,

A lot have been discussed about acupuncture and the amazing scientifically proven health benefits this ancient practice has provided countless number of people throughout the centuries.

This article will specifically focus on the potential positive effects of auricular acupuncture, which is acupuncture on the auricle or outer ear.

As with most CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) therapies, practitioners of auricular acupuncture may overstate what the therapy can achieve. Those who endorse it assert that it can balance mood problems such as depression and anxiety, improve digestion, relieve allergies, and alleviate chronic pain. These assertions have actually been scientifically proven and replicated.

Some of the assertions that auricular acupuncture can treat everything from weak eyesight to obesity to smoking cessation to diabetes are what result in outright disbelief and confusion on the part of the patients and medical community.

Let’s get straight to the point and see how this natural healing modality technique is truly effective as many claim it is.

What is Auricular Acupuncture?

Over the last 60 years, auricular acupuncture has shown itself to be a distinct offshoot of acupuncture. Acupuncture therapy has been used by practitioners for millennia and holds an important place in other ancient civilizations as well as in TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine.

However, the medical community has only taken acupuncture seriously in the past few years. Its capacity to assuage pain by the stimulation of pressure points is well proven and its efficacy in reducing the painful side effects of conventional cancer treatments is also proven scientifically.

You know the perception of acupuncture has shifted when the American Cancer Society mentions a complementary or alternative treatment in a good light. Nowadays, several cancer therapy centers provide acupuncture treatments to effectively ease nausea, pain, fatigue, and other side effects related to radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

At the Chapel Hill branch of the University of North Carolina, researchers describe an auricular acupuncture procedure in their research, “[Auricular acupuncture] depends on a series of anatomical maps superimposed onto the outer ear. Activating an acupoint on the map is believed to influence the gross anatomical organ related to that acupoint.”

Works for Pain

The greatest and most popular benefit of auricular acupuncture is perhaps in the treatment of both chronic and acute pain. Researchers at the UNC-Chapel Hill reviewed 17 studies that were aimed at the relief of pain caused by auricular acupuncture.

They found that the Alternative healing modality was effective in reducing pain intensity, chronic, and acute pain, which led to a decreased use of painkillers (prescription and over-the-counter).

In conclusion, the researchers stated, “More Americans are affected by pain more than cancer, heart disease, and diabetes combined, and is responsible for over 10 percent of prescription drug sales and 20 percent of doctor’s visits. Auricular acupuncture may work in the treatment of different kinds of pain, especially, postsurgical pain.”

When we take into account the growing dependence of people on medications for chronic pain – to the degree that more and more people are succumbing to really bad cases of opiate addiction – auricular acupuncture is there to provide a safe, non-drug alternative that has zero adverse side effects.

Like most CAM modalities, quality clinical trials are required to bring such procedures into the mainstream medicine. However, for those suffering from chronic pain, relief could be immediately provided by going to a reputable practitioner of ancient remedies.

Auricular acupuncture’s most famous benefit is the treatment of both chronic and acute pain.

The Placebo Effect

Auricular acupuncture, acupressure, and acupuncture in Austin all target specific acupuncture points within the body. Although all three modalities claimed to have several health benefits, some have shown to be the work of the placebo effect.

A placebo effect is an effect that relates to mind-over-matter where the mind is extremely confident that the treatment the person is given will surely work so much so that it convinces the physical body that the treatment actually works.

The body-mind connection is interesting stuff and it’s believed to have confused scientists working to prove the potency of a pharmaceutical product. In some ways, my opinion is that this phenomenon is more often than not ignored as a bona fide form of treatment.

A human study published in 2013 in the Journal of the American Board of Family is a perfect example of this. The aim of the study was to validate the efficacy of auricular acupuncture on smoking cessation. The researchers’ conclusions were as follows:

“Auricular acupuncture seemed to be devoid of significant side effects and was found to be safe. However, no difference was seen in the percentage of smoking cessation between subjects who were treated with sham auricular acupuncture and those who were given real auricular acupuncture. After six weeks, the group treated with real auricular acupuncture group reported a rate of 20.9 percent abstinence while the placebo group reported a 17.9 percent rate.”

In short, the patients who either received “fake” auricular acupuncture and real auricular acupuncture for five weeks once a week showed an aggregate total of 38.8 percent (48/125 of the subjects in the study) of people who no longer smoked at the end of the trial.

Auricular acupuncture in this instance proved extremely effective but worked anyway for about 40 percent of those former smokers because their brains were 100 percent sure it would work.

The placebo effect is truly amazing because we know we can mentally convince ourselves of things if we concentrate on it hard enough.

Another example of the placebo effect is the effect meditation has on headaches. The basic act of meditation slows down the body just enough to alleviate pressure in the head. This eases the sufferer’s anxiety at that moment, which helps alleviate the pain.

The human mind is really a powerful organ.

Safe for people of all ages, auricular acupuncture has no side effects. You can go online to search for a qualified and reputable practitioner near your area.

Consider searching for a practitioner near you if you’ve been suffering from chronic pain for a long time.

Whether at home, or in the office, you can receive the benefits of auricular acupuncture every day. It is simple to attain, easy to test, and works in ways similar to acupuncture.

07. February 2019 · Comments Off on Acupressure Method For Treating Sciatica · Categories: Uncategorized · Tags: ,

I am going to teach you how to heal sciatica using acupressure therapy. If you’ve ever experienced sciatica, you know that this can be extremely a painful and debilitating syndrome that tends to come and go. It’s important to understand the pattern of disharmony that is actually aggravating your sciatica. I encourage you to seek out your local acupuncture physician in Marlton so that you can get a proper diagnosis as well as acupressure points that you can stimulate yourself that will help alleviate the pain in the future.

In this article, we’re going to highlight one local point that is often employed with acupressure acupuncture. This point is called gallbladder 30 or Gb 30, and if you search around with your thumb or your pointer finger for the hollow of the sacroiliac joint, also called the SI joint sometimes, you will most likely find it by pressing down when your patient lets you know that you have found it.

This point is typically very tender in those patients experiencing sciatic pain. That Gb 30 point is located in a small hollow where the sciatic nerve actually runs through and there are two muscles that sometimes can press down on this nerve causing it to be inflamed. So in order to alleviate the pain of sciatica with this point, you need to use firm pressure with your thumb.

When using the thumb for acupressure, you don’t want to just press from the thumb, you also want to use the leverage of your hand and press all the way down as this point is quite deep. When it’s needled, sometimes we use three to five inch needles to actually hit the point. You need to press on the point for about 30 seconds or so and then let go and then repeat several times until the pain is reduced.

You can also use your elbow if you don’t have enough strength in your thumb or you can’t get to the point as deep as it is.

Remember to check out your local acupuncture physician so that you can get the skilled help you need in alleviating your sciatica. This is acupressure treatment for sciatic pain.

07. February 2019 · Comments Off on A Combination Of Shiatsu Massage And Acupressure Generates Greater Relaxation And Energy · Categories: Acupuncture · Tags:

More and more becoming a huge favorite for those wanting a relaxing and reinvigorating bodywork, Shiatsu Massage is a soothing blend of traditional acupressure and western massage. Acupressure is a healing technique whose origins evolved from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine teachings, the human body has a core energy called qi or chi. This energy flows through a specific network of pathways, called meridians. According to TCM, disease is simply an indication that the qi in our body has become imbalanced. Shiatsu is an acupressure variant that works to restore balance and stimulate the chi along the meridians.

Acupuncture in Orlando is the most popular form of TCM to work the body system. In acupressure therapy, rather than needles, the practitioner uses his or her thumbs to activate the pressure points along the meridians. Shiatsu does more by using the forearms, palms and even the feet to activate the points.

When getting shiatsu massage, the client typically lays down on a pad on the floor. The therapist/practitioner then will kneel along sidethe client’s body and use his or body weight for pressure. Since no massageoil is used, the client can remain clothed, which is especially good for people who avoid massage because of shyness. A technique called Barefoot Shiatsu is aneffective and fun addition to the therapy whereby the therapist stands alongside the client, and gently uses his or her foot to apply pressure to the meridians.

A combination of shiatsu and classic massage is usedin Shiatsu Massage. This is typically performedon a massage table. Theclient sheds his or her clothes and lays on the table covered by a towel as the therapist leaves the room. Thetherapist then just exposes the areas that need to be worked on. The therapy session traditionally begins with massage and then the Shiatsu is included strategically throughout generating a profound relaxing sensation on the client.

Shiatsu Massageis usually combined with traditional Acupressure. This will mean that the therapist useshis or her thumbs to hold gently some of the pressure points of the client’s body, whilst using his or elbows, palms, or forearms to rub the body. Shiatsu is generally used to work down meridians at an even but slow pace. Afterwards, acupressure is used to apply pressure on the points for longer periods. This works especially well for body parts areas that are quite tight.

This combination of acupressure and Shiatsu massage can bring about an even more relaxing experience than by just the administration of massage alone. Thisis because shiatsu massage is designedto loosen the surface muscles, while acupressure amplifies the feeling of relaxation and takes it to a more energetic level. Acupressure also augments the healing benefitsby restoring balance to the energy of the body, which leads to general well-being and health.
