Because the typical American diet is not really that balanced or healthy, a large amount of digestive problems are recorded consistently every year.  The use of standard medications sometimes may not resolve these problems and some people look for other ways, sometimes unconventional ways to find treatment.  One of the more unconventional forms of treatment is acupuncture that is used as a solution for various kinds of disorders that conventional medicine cannot satisfactorily address.

Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese medicinal art of using needles introduced at acupuncture points or acupoints in the body to treat an ailment.  It began in China around 5,000 years ago and works to establish energy balance and good blood flow to attain homeostasis, normalize bodily functions and promote vitality, relaxation and comfort enabling the body to be in overall good health.

Traditional Chinese medicine or TCM considers the spleen as the main organ that governs gastrointestinal function. TCM sees the spleen as the conveyor of food in the body and also governs the removal of waste in the body.  To have a well functioning gastrointestinal function, the body should have a balance of energy between the stomach and spleen since an imbalance between the two will cause one or both to dysfunction.  A dysfunction of one or both these organs may also affect the function of the liver and cause the liver energy to also become imbalanced.

Acupuncture helps to reestablish energy balance and proper blood flow in the gastrointestinal system.  This is accomplished by determining the acupuncture points that lead to the liver, stomach and spleen meridians and insert these points with filiform needles to enable blood and energy (chi) to flow freely and provide proper energy and blood to these organs.   The needles help stimulate gastrointestinal muscle contraction that regulates the production of gastric acid and allow the stomach and spleen to lessen the stress and pressure in the gastrointestinal system to help relax and relieve other digestive symptoms.

Acupuncture to treat digestive disorders is often combined with Chinese herbal medicine although acupuncture as a stand alone treatment can suffice to treat the problem.  You need to go to a qualified herbologist when dealing with herbs as there are herbs that neutralize the effects of acupuncture or if you are taking medications may react negatively with them causing you more problems.

Here are some of the digestive disorders which can be treated with acupuncture:

  • Ulcers
  • Inflammatory disorders( ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease)
  • Gastritis
  • Hiatal hernia
  • Heartburn
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding and infections
  • Bacterial infections

Medications carry substances that negatively react to the body causing side effects.  Prolonged used of certain medications can even permanently impair the liver and kidney.  Because acupuncture does not use any medications in its treatment makes it a better and safer alternative to pharmaceutical medications.

Moxibustion is an acupuncture Orlando technique that involves burning a mugwort herb or moxa to facilitate healing.  The moxa can be placed pinned on the holding tip of an acupuncture needle and allowed to burn itself out or set on the acupuncture point itself, burned and removed quickly before it singes the skin.  The former technique is called scarring and the latter one is termed non-scarring.

The aim of moxibustion therapy is to improve blood and chi flow to the affected or painful area and it serves as an analgesic and facilitates healing as well.  A weakness in kidney yang causes pain in the extremities, fatigue and back pains.  The heat that moxibustion gives addresses the imbalance in the body by stimulating the kidney yin to produce more body heat.

Eating warm, fresh and properly cooked foods like warm or hot soup is a good idea since it raises body heat level and helps in lessening ailments like back pain.  Eating protein packed foods and carbohydrates are likewise good ways to generate calories and high body heat.

Signs of low back pain due to cold damp weather often manifests in the back area through a heavy sensation and stiffness of the muscles.  The range of movement of the back muscles becomes curtailed with this type of condition.   Pain can spread from the back to the legs and there are times when a cold feeling may be felt along with the pain in the affected area.  The tongue produces a white, heavy sticky coating and the pulse is weak and deep or slow and deep.

Low back pain produced by kidney weakness often is seen as soreness and pain in the lower back.  The knees and loins feel weak and limp.  A yang deficient kidney would manifest cramp-like sensations in the lower part of the stomach along with cold limbs.  The tongue shows a pale-pink color while the pulse is slow and deep.  The throat and mouth show dryness, the face looks red and the chest has an uneasy sensation.  The tongue shows a bright red color with light coating while the pulse is either fast or weak.

Treatment by moxibustion and/or traditional acupuncture for low back pain begins by locating the foot-Taiyang and Du meridians.  These two energy vessels regulate the flow of blood and chi.  Moxibustion and acupuncture are used to address cold-damp type of back pain.  If the type of weakness of kidney yang is known, the needles are then used with moxibustion and the reinforcing process.  If kidney yin is lacking, only the reinforcing method is applied.

To avoid having low back pain, live in places that are not cold and damp.  Places like basements are to be avoided if you want to avoid developing low back pain.

The bulk of prescriptions pharmacists get daily are for addressing body pain including advanced pain relief, neck pain relief or back pain relief.  This defines chronic pain as a very major bane to modern society.

Here are some of the modalities used to address chronic pain today:

  1. Massage – The number of adherents for massage therapy or sometimes called physiotherapy are growing by the day.  These people are convinced (and some have actually benefited from it) that massage therapy is truly a potent therapy for relieving neck and back pain.  Some people immediately after work go to a massage clinic and get a massage that relaxes them and lulls them to sleep.  After this rest they become reenergized.   Massage offices are now ubiquitous in many commercial areas including shopping malls hotels airports health centers and spas.
  2. Capsaicin – This type of therapy is not as popular as massage.  Capsaicin is the substance that gives chili peppers their zing.  They now are created in cream form and used on the sore back of the neck or back.  The effect of this treatment is that is neutralizes the effect of a neuro-chemical called substance P, which causes pain to be amplified.  Capsaicin like liniment helps to relieve the pain in the neck and back.
  3. Alexander Technique – The Alexander technique is all about good posture as it bases its assumption of neck or back pain to be the result of years of poor posture.  If good posture is constantly applied, the pain in the neck and back will eventually go away permanently.  Studies have actually proven that bad posture like slouching can develop to shoulder and neck stress which lead to the shrinking of the muscles and thus limited mobility.
  4. Acupuncture Orlando – Acupuncture is a very popular treatment that originated thousands of years ago in China.  It has been used exactly for painful body conditions including neck and back pain.  This modality was introduced in the US in the 1970’s for the treatment of pain.  It is a very powerful pain reliever and sometimes used in surgeries that requires the patient to be conscious while under operation.  The underlying theory of acupuncture is that the reason for pain lies in energy that does not move or slowly moves around the body due to blockages that have developed in the energy vessels called meridians.  Needles are then applied to remove the blockage(s) to allow blood and energy to travel once again freely.  Millions of people today have benefited from acupuncture and it is quite effective that many medical doctors have trained in this healing art to become practicing acupuncturists themselves.  For chronic pain patients, regular sessions of acupuncture are needed to help manage their pain much better.

When a person has a headache, he/she normally would seek out medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.  However, there are natural therapies that treat headaches in a safe way with no side effects.

One of these natural safe therapies is acupuncture Orlando, an ancient Chinese therapy long used by headache sufferers and known for its effectiveness in addressing headache pain.  Folks suffering from chronic headaches certainly deal with pain every moment of their lives which greatly affects their daily living.  Sadly, conventional methods of treatment are not enough to take care of this problem in a satisfactory and effective way.  Prescription or over-the-counter painkillers and analgesics merely give transitory relief and constant use of these drugs will soon cause the body to build up resistance to them.  Furthermore, the body can experience a type of headache called ‘rebound headache’ that is impervious to these medications.  As the potency of the drugs tapers off due to constant use, people who suffer from chronic headaches are forced to seek other more effective natural remedies for their problem.  Acupuncture is one very good alternative treatment for chronic headache.

People who have heard about acupuncture usually have thoughts about needles being pricked all over the body and this cause them to hesitate trying it.  However, the needles used are very thin and non-hollow.  Under the hands of licensed and well-trained acupuncturist the insertion of needles in the body should not elicit any painful sensations or at least may elicit a slight, tingling sensation.  Depending on the condition of the patient, the needles are stuck at specific points in the body.

Researches done in Germany have shown that acupuncture therapy is as good if not better than pain medications in treating headaches. The studies involved acupuncture use to remedy both tension headaches and migraines, which are the most common types of headache.  Patients who have tried acupuncture compared this treatment to their previous medications and said that the effects of the former surpass the potency of drugs to heal headaches. They added that they have not felt any side effects with acupuncture unlike the significant side effects they experienced from the drugs they took to ease their headache.  Although the consensus as to the beneficial claims of acupuncture is not fully established, the claim from thousands of patients who have felt the positive effect of acupuncture in addressing their chronic headache have obviously shown that acupuncture for chronic headache treatment does truly work.

The gateway theory is one theory accepted by medical researchers that states that acupuncture controls pain by retarding the function of the nerves that transmit pain signals to the body.  This theory means that acupuncture needles have the ability to control specific body functions that aid in addressing certain types of health conditions.

25. December 2011 · Comments Off on Acupuncture Orlando Helps with Depression · Categories: Acupuncture · Tags: , , , ,

For people who have experienced or are experiencing depression, the mood can be very dark and the feeling is constantly of one filled with sadness and longing.  Depression is an emotional problem whose symptoms can manifest psychologically and physically and which can greatly affect the person’s normal daily activities.  Some of these symptoms may be suicidal ideation, thoughts of doing harm to others, feelings of hopelessness, lack of interest in any particular social activity or recreation, inability to concentrate, fatigue, crying spells, worrying and anxiety among others.

In the United States, around 8 million people suffer from depression.  The most common treatment for this disorder is antidepressant drugs and the antidepressant drug market is one of the most profitable markets for the pharmaceutical drug companies.   Most antidepressants work by regulating the serotonin levels in the brain.  These drugs actually do more harm than good and besides the financial cost of using them and their side effects patients are required to take them frequently and for prolonged periods of time.  Acupuncture Orlando, on the other hand when complemented with Chinese herbs, is a much more effective and long-term alternative to treating depression and other forms of extreme negative emotional disorders.

Interestingly, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which acupuncture is a part of does not see depression as an illness per se but nevertheless does greatly help treat its symptoms applying acupuncture and other modalities to correct energy imbalances in the body. Needles used by acupuncture are as thin as human hair and are placed at certain points in the body to help improve or regulate the flow of energy the Chinese refer to as chi meaning vital force.  Acupuncture is widely used as a treatment for pain and painful disorders and now has been proven to be a very effective treatment of prolonged anxiety and depression.

Drugs such as antidepressants only address the symptoms of depression; never its root cause, which is emotional and physical stress.  These stressors can lead to chi blockages in the body or alter and decrease beneficial neurotransmitters, such as serotonin resulting in the manifestation of depression, fatigue and anxiety.

Chronic depressive patients seldom have suicidal thoughts or tendencies; they often more suffer from stress, poor sleeping and anxiety.  Acupuncturists often with help from Chinese herbal medicine choose specific acupuncture points to treat the undying cause of the patient’s depression.  Acupuncture brings into the patient an increased level of energy and takes out the levels of sleeplessness and anxiety after a few sessions of it.  One of acupuncture’s greatest features is that there are no side effects to this treatment.  Another great thing about it is that the body and mind are now able to identify what causes depression and take measures to correct the imbalances that rise up during stressful times.

Acupuncture Orlando is very good for the healing of severe body pains, which drugs such as antibiotics or painkillers fail to effectively address. Whether one suffers from severe migraine/headache, joint pains, arthritis or back pain acupuncture offers such a wonderful remedy for one’s extreme painful conditions.
Acupuncture is about the insertion of needles into the skin at points called acupuncture points to allow vital energy, which the Chinese call chi to flow unhindered once again.   This ancient Chinese belief states that chi travels along invisible networks of energy vessels called meridians and when chi gets tied up in certain parts of the body, instead of flowing freely throughout the body, that will lead to pain and distress. Acupuncture needles are then introduced to remove factors that impede chi flow and allow energy to flow normally once more throughout the body relieving any pain and distress along the way.
One particular type of pain whose symptoms acupuncture can effectively neutralize is arthritis.  Arthritis literally means inflammation of the joints but the condition also applies to inflammation of the tendons and ligaments as well.  Arthritis can manifest in severity from mild joint stiffness to extreme painful and incapacitating disability.  It greets you from your sleep with severe pain.  Arthritis can be categorized as gout, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis all of which are characterized with severe pain.
Acupuncture for the treatment of arthritic ankle or knee can be cured in just three to four sessions. A few (4) to several (10) needles are inserted in the skin and left there for 30 to 40 minutes.  Specific acupuncture points are selected that would allow the pain and inflammation to be treated.
Another great use for acupuncture is for the treatment of headaches, sinus and migraines.  Sinuses and migraines are more painful types of headaches typified by the pulsation, pounding or throbbing of nerves in the head.  Migraine is characterized with pain localized in one part of the head while sinus pain affects parts near the nose the eyes and the temples.
Acupuncture is more potent for the relief of migraine and sinus symptoms than pain medications. Acupuncturists sometimes use approaches like auricular (ear) acupuncture, electro-acupuncture or manual acupuncture to treat sinus or migraine conditions.
Another painful condition this time felt in the hand and wrist is carpal tunnel syndrome.  The symptoms of this problem are numbness, tingling and severe pain in the hands and/or fingers, which travels up to the elbow.  One effective technique used by acupuncturists for this condition is scalp needling. Scalp needling involves needles being inserted at different areas in the scalp and on the face and hands and the use of staples, small metal balls and magnets attached to the earlobes and face to quicken and optimize the treatment

Very few treatment modalities can claim to have no side effects at all.  Acupuncture Orlando is one of them.  Acupuncture is a 3000-year-old treatment procedure that is not only effective but is also a natural form of treatment and very safe to use.  Acupuncture’s benefits are not known universally which may be one reason why this beneficial treatment for many types of disorders seems obscure to many people and not given the respect it so truly deserves.

The first recorded account of acupuncture use was around 3000 years ago.  The ancient acupuncturists noted that the body runs on an energy that travels just like blood throughout the body.  They called this energy Qi or chi, which means vital force or life energy and it travels on invisible energy vessels called meridians.  These energy vessels are connected in one form or another to certain major organs in the body such as the kidneys, heart and lungs among others.  Meridians also connect to the skin through points in the body called acupuncture points or acupoints.  Each acupuncture point when applied with needles can affect the flow of chi on the organ it is associated with.  With the help of modern technology, it is now possible to gauge the electrical charges flowing in the body and the meridians where the electrical charges flow.

The ailments and diseases the body experiences are the result of the poor flow of chi in the body.  When chi stops flowing because of a blockage in the meridian, the energy in some parts of the body become deficient while some parts are getting too much energy, which is not good either.  What acupuncture does is remove the blockage and restore the energy balance in the body.  The smooth flow of chi ensures that the body energy and blood are properly distributed throughout the body. Acupuncture achieves this by using very thin needles inserted at acupoints located just below the surface of the skin.  The needles generate a response that stimulates the central nervous system to release beneficial chemicals to relieve pain and boost the immune system.  This results in the treatment of disorders and the resolution of symptoms.

Many people are scared of the idea of several needles being inserted at various points in the body.  When the needles are inserted, the only thing felt is a slight sensation at the most as the needle enters the skin.  Many people under the hands of a skilled acupuncturist do not feel anything at all when the needles are applied to the body.  If ever a slight sensation is felt, that sensation immediately gives way to a feeling of comfort and tranquility once the effect of the treatment sets in.  A typical session lasts from 30 to 40 minutes.

The benefits of acupuncture Orlando are so numerous.  The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed more than 30 health conditions that acupuncture can effectively treat.  Yet so many people especially in the United States are unaware of this wonderful therapy.  Here is a list of benefits that acupuncture offers:

  1. Acupuncture is a non-invasive treatment form.  One does not need to undergo painful procedures to get rid of pain and illness.  Though acupuncture uses needles in its procedure, the needles are as thin as human head hair and do not cause pain at all.  The needles are inserted at depths that hardly break the skin.  Extremely rare cases of inflammation, mild bleeding or bruising from acupuncture have been reported.  Therefore, it is best to consult with a reputable, experienced and certified professional acupuncturist for one’s treatment to avoid these occurrences.  Not all acupuncturists are as skilled as those with extensive experience and credentials.  It is best to get recommendations from one’s healthcare provider, physician, friends or family for a qualified acupuncturist.
  2. Acupuncture is relatively inexpensive when compared to other forms of treatment.  Medications taken in the long-term can cost a fortune compared to a few series of acupuncture sessions in treating a painful condition.  We all know that surgery on the average costs tens of thousands of dollars; a fraction of the amount of acupuncture therapy.
  3. Acupuncture does not have side effects.  Do medications have side effects? Yes.  What’s more, unlike medications, which can leave one drowsy, nauseous, dizzy and sleepy, acupuncture enables one to perform one’s daily activities after treatment. One can spend an hour or two in an acupuncture clinic then proceed with scheduled appointments immediately after treatment.
  4. As mentioned above, acupuncture can ably treat several diseases.  Mild to severe pain, osteoarthritis, phobias, addictions, infertility or obesity are some of the diverse conditions acupuncture can effectively address.  Besides being a treatment for illnesses, acupuncture can also enhance the functions of the body systems (circulatory, endocrine, digestive, respiratory, etc.)
  5. Acupuncture can be a complementary/supplementary modality for other treatment methods.  Acupuncture can make other modalities, mediocre when left on its own become an effective treatment for illnesses and disorders.  Acupuncture is often combined with another powerful modality as herbal medicine, which can quicken and optimize the treatment process.  Applied with Western modalities such as In Vitro Fertilization where chances for fertilization may be less than 50% without acupuncture, when combined with acupuncture, this procedure jumps to above 70% to more than 80% success rate.  This fact is the same with egg-donor transfer and artificial insemination.

With these factors in mind, one can see the wonderful benefits acupuncture has on people’s health.  If there ever is a treatment that can claim to be a panacea, acupuncture comes pretty close to it.

Acupuncture Orlando is an ancient Chinese medical tradition that entails the insertion and control of needles for the purposes of curing illness and relieving pain.  It was introduced in the United States in the 1970’s and is one of the most popular forms of alternative medicine in the world today.  Acupuncture is effective in treating a host of disorders and ailments.  It is an effective treatment for chronic back pain, dental pain, migraines, labor pain, headaches, dizziness and nausea just to mention a few.

Acupuncturists use unorthodox diagnostic tools such as palpation, patient inquiry, olfaction, auscultation and inspection.  Palpation includes locating for sore points in the body and the examination of pulses of both hands.  Patient inquiry involves querying the patient on how he/she feels.  Olfaction and auscultation involves using smell and auditory function to analyze the urine, breath and respiration of the patient.  Inspection is observing the tongue and face of the patient for symptom analysis.

Needles used for acupuncture are smaller than the usual injection needles.  Acupuncture needles are made from stainless steel and are very thin needles with varying sizes and diameter.  Acupuncture has different techniques and notable among them are electro acupuncture and moxibustion.  Typical treatment plans may be from four to twelve sessions for a few months for just one complaint.  Many patients may need treatments lasting a few years for health maintenance.

A typical treatment may involve the use of a few (five) to several (up to twenty) needles inserted at certain depths, gently manipulated as they are punctured into the skin.  Moxibustion involves the burning of moxa plant over the needle and left to burn completely as the heat gives out a medicinal effect on the body.  Electro acupuncture, on the other hand sends a gentle electric pulse generated by a machine to the needles, which generates a relaxing and comfortable sensation to the patient.  The needles are allowed to stay in place for 15 to 40 minutes.  Typically, as the needles are inserted the patient may feel a slight discomfort; however this sensation is fleeting and as the needles’ effect kick in, the discomfort is allayed and replaced with a relaxing and comfortable feeling.

Treatment is not an instantaneous occurrence in acupuncture and depending on the severity of the condition, results may be seen for a few days or several weeks after initial treatment.  Usually, to enhance and facilitate the treatment process, other modalities are included.  The common supplementary therapies included are herbal medication, steroid injection and anti-inflammatory medication.  Acupuncture can neutralize the side effects caused by the drugs by helping the body flush out the inherent toxins of these drugs.  However, it is best to consult with one’s physician and acupuncturist before undergoing acupuncture if one is using medication for health maintenance for any concerns regarding contraindication.

Moxibustion is a component of  traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).  It is a treatment that entails the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to hasten healing.  It has been used in China and other parts of Asia for millennia.  The actual translated Chinese character for acupuncture, means acupuncture-moxibustion.  Moxibustion enhances blood quality and flow, helps in the normal flow of chi and safeguards health.  There are two types of moxibustion: direct and indirect.  In direct moxibustion, a small mass of moxa is set on an acupuncture point and burned. Direct moxibustion is subcategorized into two: scarring and non-scarring. Scarring moxibustion is about setting the moxa on a certain point, burned and left on the point until it burns itself out.  This usually leads to scarring after healing. Non-scarring moxibustion involves placing the moxa on the area of treatment, ignited but removed before it sears the skin.  Moxibustion stimulates a pleasant sensation that goes deep into the skin.  Indirect moxibustion is used more often obviously because of lower chances of being burned.  In indirect moxibustion, a practitioner lights a moxa stick, and sets it close to the involved area for several minutes until the area turns red.  Indirect moxibustion can also be done with acupuncture needles and moxa.  A needle is inserted into an acupuncture point and the end of the needle is enveloped in moxa and burned.  The heat travels to the needle into the point causing a relaxed and pleasant sensation in the body.  When the desired result is attained, the fire is extinguished and the needles removed.

Moxibustion treats cold or stagnant conditions. The fire of the moxa takes away cold and warms the meridians, helping achieve a smoother blood and chi flow and balancing the heat and cold imbalances in the body.  Moxibustion is also effective in pregnancy complications.  It is effective in enabling breech babies to turn into a normal head-down position. Moxibustion is known to expand the uterus thus widening the area of movement of the fetus.  It also helps alleviate menstrual cramps when used in combination with traditional acupuncture Orlando.  Mugwort aids in the enhancement of blood flow particularly in the pelvic area and uterus allowing nourishment of the ova, making the eggs healthier and helping achieve regular menstruation.  Although moxibustion is widely regarded as a safe form of TCM for thousands of years, there are people who may not benefit from its use.  Since it is indicated in TCM for use on patients suffering from cold factors, it is contraindicated for use on patients suffering from heat excess.  Burning moxa may induce an aromatic smell but with others who have respiratory problems the smoke may be too much unless the practitioner uses smokeless moxa sticks as a substitute.
