Dandruff is not merely a dryness of the skin it also means excessive oil and an excessive output of small scales made up of skin cells “glued together with skin oil.” Dandruff is also referred to as common dandruff, seborrhea dermatitis or just seborrhea. This oil manifest as a number of issues such as red, raw patches below the breasts, redness in the armpits or on the face, thick scales on the scalp and, of course, dandruff. Some of these problems may feel dry and in some instances, the skin can seem dry or dry and oily at the same time. Seborrhea (dandruff) is a condition of the skin that causes the body to produce either too much oil or too little moisture. It also a kind of inflammation of the skin (dermatitis) whose exact cause is unknown or it may due to an overproduction of skin cells on the scalp. Dandruff can manifest anytime and there can be extreme episodes that may be related to psychological or physical stress. The aim of treatment is to remove the inflammation of the skin. Treatment approaches may include cortisone lotion and creams or the reduction of yeast accumulating on scaly areas. One important thing to note, however, is that dandruff is not a yeast infection. Another way to treat dandruff is to moisturize the skin although this doesn’t do much other than making the patches look redder or smoothing out the scales.
There are certain fallacies held by some people when it concerns dandruff. It is not true that dandruff is caused by long hair, hidden illness or a faulty diet. It is also not a contagious condition. Dandruff usually occurs when the scalp shows any signs of weeping, tenderness or inflammation or is very itchy. This scalp problem occasionally is the result of extreme cold and heat. Skin cells normally die and flake off to make way for newer and healthier skin cells.
